How to engage the audience?

Hello Earl,

I’ve noticed that one of the most difficult tasks is keeping the audience engaged during a presentation.

While I may have interesting content, sometimes I’m met with difficult audiences that aren’t motivated enough to participate in the discussion.

How can I influence the audience to participate and share their ideas openly? I want to convey my message in a way that they would receive clear understanding and feel emotionally involved in my presentation.

Any tips would be great.

Thanks!

Hello Tiffany,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me with your question.

In terms of finding and using different ways to engage your audience, there are different options that you can choose from. Think about asking them questions, prompting them to give you a response. This option can start audience engagement and can help start discussions about the topic you are talking about. You could also have some exercises for them to do (be it one person or the whole audience) think about an exercise that the audience can engage with that has relevence to the topic you are discussing. If you are confident in your material, you can also think about adding in some humour. The possibilities are endless really, it's up to mainly what you are comfortable with.

I hope this has helped to answer your question. Remember that you can always contact me directly if you have any other questions about engaging an audience or about public speaking in general.
